I'm 8 weeks pregnant. I've got what they call the, "New OB" appointment on Friday. I know they said they'll be asking me a lot of questions. But, I've got a couple questions:
1. Besides the questions and pap, what else will they be doing?
2. Should I bring anything/anyone with me?
3. Are they going to be asking me questions about my husbands health history as well?
4. How long does it take (approximate)?

Thanks all!
I was wondering about the time becaue they would only schedule the new OB appointment at 8:00 am or 1:00 pm. So, I was wondering if I was in for the long haul!

They will do a pap, ask questions on your family history, the babys fathers med history, blood tests, your insurance coverage, and the will give you booklets and pamphlets on pregnancy. You'll hear the baby's heartbeat on the second checkup. You won't have to bring anyone with you unless you want someone there. And the time depends on your doctors office and how fast they put patients in and out.

1. They will listen for the babies heartbeat.
2. You don't HAVE to and there's no real reason to, The other person would spend most of their time in the waiting room, Though they might let them come in when they look for the heartbeat.
3. And yes, They most likely will ask questions about your husbands health history.
4. I would say, On average, About an hour to an hour and a half, Depending on how busy they are.
Congrats.

Complaining approximately recess appointments isn't the area of a unmarried celebration a lot as this is a political custom. The opposing celebration continually complains approximately recess appointments. The democrats did it while Bush appointed his, as did the opposing celebration for each president who appointed human beings in the process the congressional recess until eventually now him. So if the republicans are hypocrites for doing it, so are the one you love democrats. you need to no longer anticipate that historic past began the day you began paying interest. otherwise, you will basically appear like yet another whiny celebration loyalist.

You may want to write down whatever questions you may have for the doctor concerning your pregnancy.
You can bring someone if you like... what they are basically going to do is have you pee in a cup, take your blood pressure, ask you all kinds of questions regarding your health history & your partners history. They will give you some lab paperwork also to go get your blood drawn.
They should be able to tell you your expectant due date also.
It could take awhile depending on your doctor. I know most of my wait is in the waiting room, once I get in to see the doctor it goes pretty quickly.
CONGRATS!!!

I am pregnant with my 2nd baby and at the first appointment they ask lots of health questions and do a blood test checking everything like HIV,STD's blood type, blood count etc.I am not sure if your husbands health history matters-they never asked my hubby any questions.
The 1st appointment took about 30 min.Every doctor is different though.

Ok they will do a pap test, urine test, blood work, ask you a lot of medical question not only on you but the father, you need your insurance proof, social security number, and most of the time this visit takes a few hours, I would take someone to talk to.

at my 8wk they did an ultrasound, every doctor is different though. i brought my husband with me& reccomend bringing someone w/ you b/c I'm very good @ giving blood, but they took 8 vials and I was already sick, so I basically turned green & got sick. The doctor didn't ask any questions about my husband that I didn't already know, just if he had any family history of downs, ect. My 8wk appt took about 45min.
