i do live near the bay area of calif.
what sounds like a lot of money to others
will bearly make ends meet here

It depends on the area of the country. For instance, in the SF Bay Area, a professional couple with advanced degrees can make $100K each ($200K) a year, and still be classified as upper middle class. In all other areas of the country, you would be classified as upper class. (you can't get a decent house for under $800K)

To answer your question - it depends. If you make $100K a year, you are doing better than most people around you. Of course, cops and firefighters make that much in the Silicon Valley (and they are supposed "low paid" civil servants)

I guess you haven't noticed that its the super-rich who have been getting all the tax CUTS in the last 6 years. (Insert rant about political ignorance here)

Another question would be how much should you not spend...yes you do have to make a certain amount, but you also have to be sure not to blow that money. investing will also get you there faster.
