If the nail was too damaged to be repaired on its own, then the body lets it fall off and another one grows in its place. Have you stubbed your toe lately? And if it is more than one falling off, and on both feet, you might have a fungus and need to see the doctor.

I'm a dancer and on pointe my shoes were to weak and bruised my big toes they fell off and my teacher said that they might not look the same ever.
so if your toenails have been bruised recently or were turning yellow from always have fingernail polish on them then they will fall off and might or might not grow back.
