If you like....
fantasy, try "The Two Princesses of Bamarre", by Gail Carson Levine. It is a great book about two sisters, one brave and one meek. When Meryl (the brave sister) gets sick with the horrible Grey Death, Addie (the shy sister) must fight specters, spiders, and dragons to save her sister.
chick lit, try the clique series, by Lisi Harrison. These six (soon to be seven) books embody mindless chick-lit. Chock full of pop culture references (blogs, Juicy, Starbucks), this easy-to-follow book involves an exclusive clique of girls tormenting, then learning to live with Claire, the "fashion don't" from Orlando.
science fiction, try Double Identity, by Margaret Peterson Haddix. Bethany is confused when her parents drag her halfway across the country to live with an Aunt Myrlie she didn't know she had. the plot thickens when she hears her aunt saying "She doesn't know about Elizabeth".
historical fiction, try The Diary of Anne Frank, by Anne Frank. This poignantly true diary of Anne Frank's days in hiding is a truly touching sentiment.
Some others:
The Bar Code Tattoo, Suzanne Weyn
The Princess Diaries, Meg Cabot
How to be Popular, Meg Cabot
Uglies, Scott Westerfield
Flipped, Wendelin van Draanan
