I'm only posting because I'm very desperate right now. The only friend I had told me today she doesn't know if she wants to be my friend right now. I'm 20, a male, living in Toronto. I'm not comfortable talking to anyone 2 years older or younger than me. I use MSN. I need a friend, someone who is compassionate and very kind. Someone please help.

Why doesn't she know if she wants to be your friend anymore?

Why aren't you comfortable making friends with people older or younger than you? You seem to be have too many rules for making friends.

Be less critical, smile at people at work or school, start a conversation with someone that you don't know and you'll make friends.

Is your friend a chat friend or a friend you spend time with physically? I spent a lot of time chatting online for about six years and found it easy to talk with people that way and more and more difficult to deal with people face to face. Eventually I became very lonely because it wasn't a good substitute for friends I could actually hang out with. So I went on lava life and arranged to meet a few people for coffee or walks etc., made friends with a couple of them, and we're still hanging out after a year. There are lots of lonely people waiting to hear from someone like you. It also helps to join a group or do some volunteer work in your community. I volunteered to teach basic computer skills to seniors and in the process met some really nice people (my own age) who run the programs. You'll need to reach out in some way to find friends - once you start the rest will be easy.

i don't get it, desperately asking for friends and being picky about their age, and i mean, 2 years +- is no difference at all, wish you good luck, but try to be more "friendly" from the very beginning....
