Which people are you referring to? I only know like 4 people who really like rap. It annoys the rest of us.

First off, Rap and Hip Hop are two completly different things. Rap is a genre of music where Hip Hop is a lifestyle. Hip Hop began about 20 years ago as a racially diverse movement for open minded young people. Today people just think of it as a commecially driven business. People that actually love Hip Hop know what it's all about and they have their own reasons for their choices in music and culture. The publics narrow view of what hip hop is, informs the majority of the people.

"In the late 70s Bronx, a new culture was emerging. It was not a genre of music. It was not a type of dance. It was not rapping. It was not black music. In fact, music was only part of it. Hip hop culture was a lifestyle manifestation of inner-city life, which included music, graffiti art, breaking (breakdancing) and pride in one's community. It was not black music--in fact, early hip hop supporters and practitioners were a fairly even mix of black, Carribean and Hispanic, with many whites involved too. It was a multi-racial movement which promoted peace, pride, music, art, harmony and creativity."

I love Hip Hop and for reasons that not many people will ever understand. I love the artists out there who keep pushing the boundries, while remaining true to Hip Hop's care values:
"peace, love, unity and having fun."

People like rap and hip-hop music because of the lyrics the songs have. They are usually about rebellion to society and many other stuff. Others listen to it because it is IN right now. I personally do not like it at all. It is just beat and some guy that usually talks real fast or in a "gangster" way.

what i love so much about it, is that it is another type of music and art. i love rock, alternative, even country and classical, but i enjoy listening to rap also. its a great way for people to tell their stories just as in other music genres.

it depends on who and sometimes where you are.... I like only some rap songs due to the fact that they are completely true.. some rappers talk about serious issues and how no one is doing anything about it.... but in the end people just listen to what they can dance to in the bars and ****.... for example.. shake that *** by eminem... very demeaning but girls always dance to it

its the beat...people always respond to a good beat in music...also most rap songs aren't that original (except the lyrics) most rap songs "sample" old songs that are already famous

Everybody has their own preferences. I don't ever listen to the lyrics. I just listen to the beat!
