Wouldn't Bush just add another signing statement, to the list of 300 plus, on that legislature? Democrats won and I'm so giddy!!!

From the White House website, Bush Tax Cuts:
http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/reports/taxplan.html
Yes lower income family's are receiving a 5% decrease in taxes, under 27,000 per year income. The PROBLEM with that is, look at the difference when you move past that, to higher wage averages. Starting at 130K/Year, old tax rate 36%, under Bush 33%, difference of $3900. And tax rates have gone DOWN, the higher income you have. Its a neat trick, having the Middle class getting a small tax cut so they vote for it, while the higher income earners tax's drop substantially more. Talk about voting in your own best interests!

That's good question.I think the republicans have made a lot of statements many that have been false. I personally would rather pay a little more tax than hear about another innocent soul being killed in the war.I'd rather also pay less @ the pump. I would also like for each child to receive the same educational opportunity. Maybe...just maybe that can happen. We shall see.

Because the Democratic Party ALWAYS raises taxes when it has power. ALWAYS, there has NEVER been an exception! Because ALL of the leadership of the Democrats in both the House and the Senate have consistantly voted against practically EVERY single tax cut for the past 20 years! And lastly they have already stated that they will increase government spending drastically and that ONLY can mean BIG TAX INCREASES!
Bush or no Bush, they are for sure going to give it their best shot............

The taxes will rise, cause every socialist give-away program that the democrats want to have will have to be funded on the backs of every working American. Bush will sign off cause he will need to have a compromise from them to get his agenda completed in the last couple of years of his term. So, here we go again. Better start looking for that extra job again.

One of the centerpiece policies of the Dem campaign was overturning the Bush tax cuts.
Bush hasn't wielded much of a veto pen, even on bills he questioned, like the McCain Feingold campaign finance reform bill.
I'll just have to wait and see how it plays out.

People simply do not understand what is happening that's why. True the democrats want to repeal Bush's tax cuts but what those people don't understand is that they only affect the very richest people, and not the vast majority of americans.

Bush does not have a line item veto. In order to accomplish anything, he will have to compromise and pass bills that have pork barrel items in it, and higher taxes to support them.

Democrats have stated that they plan to do away with Bush's tax plan and cut funding for the military!! History shows that the democrats raise taxes and this time will be no different!!!

Because the Dems could tie the tax hikes to war funding or something like that. I personally don't see it happening. The Dems MUST win in 2008 and raising taxes will not do it.

Amendment XVI - "The Congress shall have power to lay and collect taxes on incomes, from whatever source derived, without apportionment among the several states, and without regard to any census or enumeration. "
Doesn't say anything about needing the president's signature.
