Try this to speed things up.

Tools - Internet Options - Browsing History - Reduce Disk Space to 50.

Tools - Internet Options - Advanced - check box HTTP 1.1 Settings - check box Use HTTP 1.1 through proxy connections

I've done this and my pc is so much faster.

But bear in mind if you have a Web Site Filter on your anti virus, this will slow things down quite a bit anyway.

You can write a book about how to improve Windows performance. I came across the following articles as I was researching way to optimize Windows performance.

"10 Simple Ways To Speed Up Windows XP" -- written by Connected Internet" (http://www.connectedinternet.co.uk/2005/12/03/645/1/)

"10 Intermediate Ways To Speed Up Windows" -- written by Connected Internet (http://www.connectedinternet.co.uk/2005/12/05/652/)

The following is an excerpt from the articles to give you an idea about what's mentioned in them:

1. Disable Indexing Services

Indexing Services is a small little program that uses large amounts of RAM and can often make a computer endlessly loud and noisy. This system process indexes and updates lists of all the files that are on your computer. It does this so that when you do a search for something on your computer, it will search faster by scanning the index lists. If you don’t search your computer often, or even if you do search often, this system service is completely unnecessary. To disable do the following:

* Go to Start
* Click Settings
* Click Control Panel
* Double-click Add/Remove Programs
* Click the Add/Remove Window Components
* Uncheck the Indexing services
* Click Next

2. Optimise Display Settings

Windows XP can look sexy but displaying all the visual items can waste system resources. To optimise:

* Go to Start
* Click Settings
* Click Control Panel
* Click System
* Click Advanced tab
* In the Performance tab click Settings
* Leave only the following ticked:
o Show shadows under menus
o Show shadows under mouse pointer
o Show translucent selection rectangle
o Use drop shadows for icons labels on the desktop
o Use visual styles on windows and buttons

Because it's loaded with Scripts that are probably running without your knowledge. They normally run in the System Registry files. You can't even see them run. They are the reason for Spyware, Popups, And so on...That would be my first guess...Then I would just say your computer needs a tune up...or just plain sucks :o)

if you put alot of new things to your computer like changed the font or changed the color or you might have too many programs running at the same time. it could also be that you have too many programs in your computer that you do not need. then you might have a virus that was down loaded when you down loaded a file.
