1. The brightest star is Sirius. (In any hemisphere)
2. No. The earth rotates, which causes the apparent motion of the stars.
3. Depends on what you mean by "at night". The Sun is the closest to earth at all times of day. But the closest star to earth that can be seen at night is Proxima Centauri, which is 4.3 light years from Earth.
