i am a student who got a charge 3 years ago...i was going to go into clinicals, but i cant until i have 7 years of a clean record...my advisor basically told me this...ride it out and stay in school...do not apply for clinicals until 7 years past my conviction. at that point they will ask me if i have ever been convicted. if they only check back 7 years answer that question under the assumption that thye are asking about the past 7 years.
as long as they remain ignorant it shouldnt affect you. to bring it to their attention would be bad cus they couldnt ignore it at that point.....also i will tell you if you need it dropped you can file for expungement of many charges for about 30 dollars at your local courthouse.......you can seek a pardon for about 50, but that doesnt clear your record, it just says the govoner forgave you. all that a pardon does is clear you to vote.
i hate this is so long winded but this exact problem causes me problems every day..i figured id share all i had to learn the long hard way

A company may decide to only search the past seven years, but if you are looking for a job with the Federal Government or in the military they have access to all records, even those "expunged" records of convicted minors. Do not let others fool you into believing otherwise.
There are felonies that are less important to some companies. Quite a bit depends on how close the job is to the crime. If you were convicted of embezzlement you won't find a job in banking.

sure. employment can be denied for almost any reason, except areas of discrimination (age, religion, sex, race, etc). if they feel you are too much of a "risk" to carry their name (because on and off work, when you're an employee, you represent the company). i didnt say it was a fair or perfect system, but you have to see it from their perspective. if you feel discriminated against, talk to an attorney.

Companies don't have to hire you at all (other than for things specified as discrimination) if they don't want to.
