In the eye. The full name is macula lutea, which means "yellow spot". It's near the center of the retina.

On the retina of the eye. It's the most important part of the retina for vision. Old folks, like me, are subject to 'macular degeneration'. I had some retina detachment that was fixed with surgery. They hopped on operating because they said that if the retina detached at the macula I'd lose vision in that eye.
