This is not meant to start some kind of big war of the words on yanswers. I just want to know if any other americans feel this way. What has happened to our country? Remember right after 9/11, the flags were flying, americans of all races and religions were standing hand in hand in support of this county and our president. The star spangled banner brought a tear of pride to your eye. I love my country. I stand behind it no matter what. What happened to that? I mean if you hate american so much, then leave ya know? All anybody does anymore is bash the president and the government and the economy, its just ridiculous. I get offeneded when people say bad things about my home that I love. And no, I dont agree with the president or the government or any of it all the time, but its still MY country, and I SUPPORT IT!!! what happened to patriotism??

1st off get a clue. Bashing the President and the Government IS the American Way. It is BECAUSE we love our country that we do so. If we don't hold our leaders in check then they end up doing things against your wishes and rights. If we fail to let the folks that represent us know that we are in the driver seat, they start thinking we need them to drive us everywhere. We have to be heard and listened to. If you really want to know all about trashing from citizens to govt then study up on the Lincoln/Douglass Debates. Pick any time in US history and you will not find that people were all warm and fuzzy toward the government. As a matter of fact the opposite was usually true. Don't be sad, it makes the system work.

The same thing that happened during the Vietnam War.
It is the job of any true patriot to CRITICIZE the government of this country and keep it in check. It is our jobs that we have taken on by being voters. If we all just follow our government around like sheep we aren't living the true meaning of DEMOCRACY which is that everyone - EVERYONE is a part of this process - from the ditch-digger to the CEO. When I criticize Bush it is because I LOVE this country and want us to be a world leader again. Thanks to our current administration, we are hated and feared throughout the world. It didn't always use to be this way.

One good thing about America is that we DO pull together as one people in the face of adversity. People as a rule tend to do that. Let's just be thankful there isn't a REASON to have to do that now! Having visited another country before, I was never so glad to be back on American soil where this truly is the Land of the Free and Home of the Brave. You just don't know what you have, or don't have, until you've visited the "other side of the fence." My thanks to all those veterans who've made this possible for we Americans!

If the president is screwing the country like he has been, I think if fair to attack him as a dictator (the highest duty of any American--of any person--is to the truth). If loving your country means hating your leader (and in this case it does), then you are justified in hating your leader.
As far as hating the economy, if its bad then calling it bad is not an attack on America. And it is bad. It is making the rich richer (I am not against that so much) but is also making the poor poorer (and for that matter the middle poorer--and that I am against). And helping the rich at the expense of the poor is not American at all. We are supposed to care for the poor, the downtrodden, the huddled masses yearning to breathe free; not set them up as a stairway to ease the rise of the rich to ever higher heights. Hating the economy, the government, and the policies of any leader that goes against what is best for America (and to all humans as a whole) is what makes us American. Loving that which helps all of us is what makes us American (and more importantly human) also.

We have not had real patriotism since WWII. Various levels of patriotism do show up now and then, but let's face it..... patriotism takes courage in the face of trouble and courage is seriously lacking in the country now!
I applaud your courage and patriotism! We need more like you!
I may not agree with what any present government does, but I still stand behind our troops and salute the flag (not burn it)! I want the best for America.
People who come to America from other countries and then deride this country are free to leave.... here.... let me push you onto the boat!
The only people who have a right to deride our leadership are those who voted as U.S. citizens. We can complain because they are to serve US... not every foreigner who comes here.
Other countries have a right to their opinion, but our government is not obligated to cater to them.

That is what liberty is! You can disagree without raging war with the President. You can support him no matter what, and still disagree. We all have those thoughts now and then. No one is perfect. We now have a chance for more cooperation on behalf of the republicans and democrats, which has been missing for a long, long, time!

Being patriotic is not waving a flag and being a sheep. You are a female version of a Uncle Tom.
Being a patriotic is about being free and telling our leaders what we want not following their orders and believing their lies. You don't belong in America go to some fascist country where you will fit in.

It fell when politicians began looking at serving in office as a way to get unlimited power and money instead of serving because they believed they could do good for the people.
People continued to vote for these people instead of physically dragging them from their offices. You see the results.

Patriotism is alive and well. That's what election day was all about. Patriotism does not, and never did, mean "My country--right or wrong." It means, seeing what's right and rejoicing in it; seeing what's wrong and doing something about it. We just did something about some of the things that are wrong with this country---we voted them out of office.
