As a disabled person, I have been told I was not wanted in jobs because of my disability. I know that is illegal but firms and government agencies do it anyway. I tried to stay in one job after they openly told me that they did not want me because of my handicap and they physically attacked me.

Other than access problems for wheelchair bound individuals there are no civil rights to be violated. As far as being treated as equals that is a broad concept because disabled people are not either physically or mentally able to meet the demands of being treated as "equals" which is why they are disabled. I'd say the question is more of a matter of being treated as a human beings.

Yes,I'm disabled and I think the american disability act (ADA) needs much improvement. I think us disabled people should be treated like everyone without one. Many people are uneducated and ignorant about disabilities, I want to stop feeling like a monster in public. Good luck with the project!!:) Have a nice day...

I have a psychiatric disability, diagnosed at age 21, 20 yrs ago. I don't even want to say which disease.
I've had to live an underground life because my disease is so socially disparaged, and the fact that physically I look good, simpleton Americans who only acknowledge something if they can see it are too moronic to accept my diagnosis.

The biggest change, I now make less than half of what I did before. SSI turns down every claim one makes for benefits the first time and then you have to hire a lawyer to get anything. Where is the justice in that. Who can afford a lawyer?
