Ok first if the steering lock is on turn the wheel half way between the locking system (turn the wheel half a center meter left or right then try turning the key If the steering lock isn't on the turn the wheel so its engaged and try the same If that fails the it would be best to replace the ignition which is simple to do, 1st buy a new ignition, 2nd take the plastic cover from underneath the steering wheel of, 3rd locate the ignition barrel and unplug it (plastic black plug with a clip attached to the barrel) (insuring the battery is disconnected) , 3rd unscrew the 2/4 screws holding the barrel on, 4rth plug new barrel in and secure it back in place, then try starting the car (insuring the battery is re connected) it should work, if it dos replace the plastics, job done ps You will have to keep the old key for the doors and boot

Yeah not enough information here. However some things to look at. If it's a newer car 88 or newer, and the car is not STARTING but will crank. It’s likely you have a bad Cam or crank sensor, bad fuel pump, or bad injectors. If the car will not CRANK, then you need to see if you can turn the motor by hand. If you can then your motor is not seize. You need to start tracing wires. If you are not getting any power down to the starter I would look at a bad fuse, bad battery cables, bad wires to the starter, bad ground at the starter, or something in the relay section. Hope this helps, with the limited information you gave it is very difficult to troubleshoot.

Have you tried the distributor (WD40 is a good one for this)
or even the spark plugs - they could be set to the wrong spacing?
You have not given us enough information I'm afraid. I mean, you didn't mention the part where your friend filled up your diesel car with petrol, or the fact you only have an ignition but no engine......

If you listen to all the inexperienced people that frequently answer these questions then your going to spend a lot of money and not solve anything. A experienced tech will need to know the year make model and engine size to make an accurate diagnosis.

peel the insulation back on the battery cables about an inch. If there is corrosion (bluish-white crud) between the braids of wire, than the current can't go through good enough. Ditto if the cables are dirty at the posts of the battery, or even if the battery itself is bad.

When you say won't turn over do you mean engine won't turn or won't start?? If it doesn't turn, it's the starter or you have other serious problems. If it won't start and given the information you supplied, sounds like the ICM needs replacing in the distributor!

Had to replace the cables....even though the posts were clean...the length of the cable was corroded inside the insulation.
I hate to be a smart azz....but is there gas? Maybe your fuel pump isn't working..or fuel filter clogged.
