is there a peice of software that can search for any unauthorized access to your p.c
i need a program that checks firewall settings and basic security,
any ideas

It's really good and its free. Plus, your ISP should provide you with Antivirus, Firewall etc. ALL FREE cause of your service.

The firewall should be the software checking for unauthorized access and most firewalls have a standard default set of options enabled that should provide basic security for any home user.

I swear by the zonealarm firewall and the other answers are some good practises too. You might also want to check for keyloggers that can be installing remotely to your computer. a good freeware app is listed below.

log on 2 www.symantec.com & they will scan your com 4 viruses etc also they will do security scan & inform u if u have any open ports that should b closed
