Depends on the person or situation. If you care for them and they are worth the effort then you should never "throw in the towel. Ever!!

Well the term is used in boxing or fighting competitions, not sure if you knew this and it is used when your corner feels you've had enough and are getting pummelled, due to stricter regulations throwing the towel is less seen now.
Yes it should be used, when you're getting beaten to a pulp, but never anything else
Stand up and fight you'll be respected more

it depends what type of towel it is for example if it is your favourite towel it would be senseless in throwing it in however if bought from poundland then why not its not harming anyone
