Gold is a metal thrown to earth by Zeus because he did not want his wife Hera to be greedy. Did not help him or her.

As for what Gold is made of, gold is an element so it cannot be broken down into other parts.

It is precious because of its great scarcity and great use. It used to be said (and I feel still true) that ALL the gold in the world today would fit comfortably underneath the first "deck" of the Eiffel Tower.

Not a lot

However it has great use in biology - it is inert and can be used inside the body, it has great uses chemically - it is inert to almost all chemicals and acids (other than special mixtures like aqua regia made from hydrochloric and nitric, this CAN dissolve gold), in physics although not as good a conductor as silver, gold makes a super contact material due to its softness and ability to "smudge-fit" together giving maximum surface contact.

Add to that, it doesn't tarnish, looks pretty and folks like to wear it. There is not really enough of the stuff to go around!

It is an extremely valuable metal in ALL countries.

and...the gold you wear isn't pure. hence the Karat factor. 24K is pure gold. anything less, is mixed with other metals. this is done because pure gold is way too soft.

gold is highly compressed carbon, its value is based on the fact that it as very mallable. is impervious to weather never fades in color. never tarnishes. and is very dense. its uses are immesurable. and it is world standard of wealth
