I hear it all over the place, in reference to something the speaker thinks is just to stupid for words. Does it offend you to hear this?

Yes, it is offensive, since it is meant to turn the word "gay" into a pejorative adjective.

I find this usage is most common in people with underdeveloped vocabularies, or overdeveloped bigotry.

People who use "gay" in this sense should think about how insensitive they are being.

Not really, unless the person consciously uses it and has a prejudice/hatred of gays. If they do, then certainly.

Unfortunately, this is a phrase that has slipped into the language which no longer has real meaning anymore, at least for me. It just means 'stupid', and it probably shows some offense that the word is used for that, but people usually use it unconsciously. I've even found myself suddenly wanting to say it, and I'd never say an unkind word about gays!

So, no, not in general, but if with malintent, then yes.

Gay bashing is a bit strong. Gay prejudice, yes. I'm not gay and I think it sends the wrong signals. In this enlightened time, why are we so anti-gay? Why do we mention race so often? Why do we put so much pressure on women to be sexy looking sluts? I really think that as we go forward, we keep stepping back.

I have a problem with saying that ... when I was younger it's just what we said ... " you're so gay ... that's gay ... you're acting gay " ... and yeah I know it's pretty much saying gay means bad or wrong ... and personally I don't have a single problem with gays but it's a bad habit and I have to catch myself all the time ... I also have a problem with calling my brothers F@GS ... just because it bothers them so much ... I'm not trying to bash anybody except my brothers ... but in reality I know what I'm saying would hurt some-body's feelings if they heard me saying that ... I've grown up a lot now and usually think before I say anything ... plus you never know who's gay these days ... lol ... you might just get your face punched in if you're not too careful ... !

No, its just the mark of immaturity, lack of something clever to say.

Most gay people aren't that offended, but they also dismiss the person saying it as slow witted or in most cases too young to know better (probably in grade or middle school).

I think the whole thing is gay.

Sorry if it offends but I am g0y and I use it to denote too much drama or too much gay culture for my taste.

Me and my g0y lover will use it on occasion to describe someones behavior or look.
We also use the term that is very g0y to describe a more acceptable behavior to us. We use it in private though and not in public. Although I have caught myself saying it in front of the wife and kids for the same purpose.
We generally use it only to describe behavior that is truly gay so I don't see how that can be construed as offensive.

Personally I think it sounds silly and it doesn't make a good impression on someone. It would make someone appear like they are prejudice and that there is something wrong with being gay. It is a foolish statement to make if you ask me.

The word "gay" used to mean happy only. Nowadays, we pervert the language so that anything you say can be taken the wrong way.

I guess its like saying "that's retarded". and that's not something good to say because its like saying that mentally challenged people do that, so by saying something is gay its like saying gay people do that. so I would say yes, it is a form of bashing.

i think when people say it they dont mean to insult homosexuals and I dont think that is their intentions when they do say it. what they probably mean to what they are referencing is that it is messed up, or dumb, stupid, etc. a lot of people use that word casually like it is no problem. it doesnt offend me, well, im not a homosexual, i will admit i use that word sometimes, and i dont mean to be offensive if somebody takes it that way. I use it when i think something is stupid.
