If you want to check how exciting Cussler's books are - watch the movie SAHARA starring Matthew McConaghey. That is one of my favourite books (along with Treasure, Inca Gold & Shock Wave) , and I believe Atlantis Found is one of several books that have been optioned for possible movies.

Personally I prefer the Dirk Pitt novels. Cussler has recently started a couple of other series. The one staring the Juan characters are quite good, but I'm partial to Dirk & Al.

Clive Cussler does indeed create a FICTIONAL race, the Amenes, for this book. His books in general get GREAT reviews from fiction/fantasy readers.

No. Clive Cussler is a fiction writer. He is always making up some crappy land or tribe for his unbelievable superheroes to solve problems with. After I read one book by him he was off my list of readables. Don't sweat that fiction. Also I will give you a clue - his superheroes always win no matter what the odds are against them.
