My hubby and I have been TTC for 4 years. I am finally going to the doctors to see what the problem is.

My question is; what do they test for? Will it be in one visit, or several?

I am really scared to learn that something is wrong with either me or my hubby.

If you have been through this and know a bit about the procedures, please fill me in.

And if you don’t mind, please let me know how long it took you to conceive.

Thank you.

I am still going to get check to make sure I’m OK…then my husband will be checked.

My husband and I have been ttc for 3 years. We recently started trying to find out why we couldn't get pregnant. I did get pregnant about 1 year into trying but it ended at 6 weeks with a miscarriage. The first thing we did was a procedure involving filling my uterus up with saline and doing an ultrasound, this was to check my fibroids to make sure they were not blocking anything. We found I had fibroids when I miscarried, I had no idea before that. Next, they did blood work, to check my thyroid and prolactin. After all this was normal it was time for a semen analysis. This was our problem. My husband has an extremely low sperm count. After testing it twice, both very low, we are now seeing an RE(reproductive endocrinologist). At our first visit he gave me a complete exam. Second visit, hubby got the workover and now we are waiting for the results of his bloodwork. Unfortunately, I can't tell you how long it took us to conceive, we haven't. But we are only a few steps ahead of you in testing. It looks our only option may turn out to be in vitro, which we cannot afford and I don't think I could handle the emotional roller coaster. If they can find the cause of his low count and it is treatable, we may be able to do artificial insemination. I have my fingers crossed. He may just have a low testosterone level, and they can fix that with injections. We are looking at 3 months wait, it takes that long to produce new sperm. Hope this helps. I do know that if we go with artificial insemination I will have to have and hsg, where they inject dye into your tubes to check for blockage. I hear that one is not very comfortable. But nothing compared to child birth I hear.

Good Luck to you and your husband!!!!

First off are your periods regular? Do you have any pervious children? My husband and I tried for 5 years and I got pregnant on my own, but later found out that I dont ovulate every month because of pcos and now am on provera and metformin to help me get pregnant.

I JUST WENT TO THE DR THE OTHER DAY WITH SAME ?'S, FIRST I WILL BE DOING THE OVUL TESTING, ALONG WITH TESTING THE SPERM FROM BF, IF IT IS THAT YOU ARE NOT OVULATING THEY WILL START CLOMID, IF IT IS THE SPERM THERE IS A PROCEDURE THAT THEY HAVE WHERE IT IS WASHED AND CLEANSED THEN THEY WILL DO ANOTHER PROCEDURE WHERE THE SPERM IS INJECTED TO THE UETERUS. THEY ALSO DO AN XRAY OF THE FALLOPIAN TUBES WHICH CAN BE EXPENSIVE. THERE WILL BE SEVERAL OFFICE VISITS

You can have a HSG to see if your tubes are open, slightly painful but not too bad. I also had vaginal ultrasounds to ensure that I was ovulating. There are also blood tests for that and you can do a post-coital test to ensure that your cm is not attacking the sperm.
