This is mental! I am going to be 40 weeks next wednesday, went to my doc checkup yesterday, had a different doctor as my doc was unavailable. He noticed I have gained 6 pounds in 6 days, and asked me if I was having twins and if not then I am sure going to have a big baby! Last scan was at 24 weeks showing 1 baby, always one heart beat heard. He did the usual feel around the belly and believed if it one baby 'hopefully' I can have it naturally. Since I hit my 3rd tri I gained weight rapidly. So far in total I have gained 81 pounds! And I drink so much water I get so thirsty I have swollen everywhere lol and have the biggest belly in the world! lol Just wondering, could the doctor be wrong about the size of baby and it just me with all the fat? lol I don't believe I am having twins even though my sister is one and twins and triplets run on my father's side and twins on my mum's side. Oh and I'm eating normal lol. Any ideas would be appreciated lol.

Probably not twins. I gained a lot of weight at the end of my pregnancy, and just like you I was retaining water like crazy. The good thing about that is after the baby is born in the next 2 weeks you will have night sweats like crazy but you will shed those pounds like nothing you have seen before. That is the greatest feeling in the world. I had went from 125lbs to 205 with my third baby and she only weighted 7lbs 11oz. So the doc can be wrong. However their was a girl who went in labor before me she was tiny and had a 10lb 8oz baby boy. Who can tell that would have happened. I assumed the baby would be walking out of the hospital caring his mom! LOL

This happened to me as well. I'm sure you are not having twins- you would have known for sure by now. It's a pretty obvious thing. Everyone else gave good advice, but I just wanted to say in my case, I developed hypothyroidism- it can cause unexplained weight gain and make losing the weight very very hard (basically impossible). If you have a difficult time losing the weight after your baby arrives, get tested for thyroid conditions. It is a simple blood test.

Good luck and congratualtions on your new baby!

I gained 6 pounds in 6 days with my first pregnancy. I was constipated. At the next checkup, I had lost 5 pounds. Keep track of your blood pressure. As long as it is not high, you should be fine. I gained 55 pounds with my first one and lost 60 afterwards.

Don't worry about it. It will soon be worth it. You will lose the weight at a pretty steady pace after the baby is born. It is probably mostly water weight and baby. Just remember that if you decide to breast feed....it helps to get the weight off.
Congratulations!

Relax it will be here ia the next few days. Breast feed and that will help both you and the baby. Relax.

I would recomend that you excercise since the increase in weight could result in diabetes.

It sounds like you may have pre-eclampsia. It causes swelling, sudden weight gain, high blood pressure and headaches. This is very serious! Please go to the ER and get checked.

Are you diabetic? because babies are bigger with diabetic mothers, and people with diabetes crave a lot of water. Have your sugar content checked.
