Yeah, I know the obvious answer would be "Just don't do it", but it's not easy... I can't sleep on my back! I just can't make myself go to sleep like that. I try to go to sleep on my side, and I always roll in my sleep, and end up on my stomach, and every morning I wake up with back pain... Any tips?

Oh man I really know where you are coming from. I have osteoarthritis of the lower back, hips and spine. Like you I start off sleeping every night on my side, I too can't sleep on my back as I snore all night. Every morning I wake up on my stomach. I ALWAYS sleep good on my stomach but my back is in a lot of pain if I do. If you find out a way how to stop I will HAVE to try it too.

I stopped sleeping on my stomach when I found out I was pregnant. I didn't want to risk hurting the baby. I always sleep on my stomach to so with both pregnancies I was very uncomfortable sleeping on my sides or on my back. They have pregnancy pillows you can get that will make you feel more comfortable though

Pillows!!

To break the habit of sleeping on your tummy, you could either put a pillow in front of you while sleeping on your side (hold onto the pillow as you fall asleep), or get a body pillow you won't have to hold onto. If you end up turning over in the other direction in your sleep and still wake up on your tummy, then just put another pillow behind your back as well as the one in front.

Sleeping on your side can give you back pain of another kind tho, so to eliminate that, sleep with a pillow between your knees.

That's a lot of pillows, lol, but after you re-train yourself to sleep on your side, you'll probably only use the pillow between your knees after that. When sleeping on your side, just imagine ways to keep your spine in one straight line, then you won't have any pain.

That also means having a good sturdy pillow for your head, so it's straight with your spine too. There are special pillows for your head and for your knees, you could try those if you want. Otherwise just make sure the one for your head isn't too soft (can make your head pull your spine down), or too bunchy (can make your head pull your spine up).

Do these things and you'll be snoozing in total comfort, and waking without any pain. :)

Use some body pillows. Brace the bed against the wall and use the wall as stabilizing the pillows into position. Other than that, the only other thing I can think of is to tie a wrist or ankle to the bed post and see if that helps, but be careful you don't hurt the circulation.

Best to you!

Extra pillows will probably not work. Takes up room and you can always push them away off the bed
Strap a rolled up towel around your waist. This will keep you from rolling on your stomach.

Sleeping on my side with a pillow between my legs really helped my back pain. I know it sounds silly, but it's been proven to work, see this link...

Wow it took me to get pregnant to force myself not to sleep on my belly. Now I don't get good sleep cause it feels weird. Try sleeping with a fluffy pillow between your legs while on your side. That helped me out alot. It's comfortable.

The attitude is the problem if you say you can't sleep on your back then you won't be able to. Put a pillow on each of your sides to prevent you from turning subconsciously. You will most likely have trouble making yourself sleep on your back, but it will eventually happen.

Sleep with a big body pillow beside you when you're on your side. It will keep you from rolling over so easily. Good luck!
