Probably not unless you work out something with the CC company in advance

Probably not. Today with all the security measures, the name on the credit card will have to match the name on the drivers license. What you should do is call the rental company and ask if they have a program where you can use your credit card as a gift for someone. Don't let them take physical possession of the card. The only other way would be to call your credit card company and see if they will issue an additional card in the other persons name and let them take that.

No, I think YOU would have a rent the car with your credit card and put your friend on the agreement as a driver....but make sure you trust your friend because you and your credit card will be held liable if anything happens to the car.

That's actually considered fraud unless you set up an agreement with the CC issuer that your friend is an authorized user of the card.

My question to you is - why would you let them do that? I wouldn't trust my family to use my credit card, let alone a friend. Things like this ruin friendships.

Nope. Contact the rental car place and see if you can add her as authorized user to card if that will help or give written permission. Im not sure if either of those will work but it doesnt hurt to try.
