It really varies depending on how its taken. Taken axillary (under the armpit) it's about 97.6°F/36.3°C. Orally it is about 98.6°F/37°C. Aurally (ear) it is about 99.6°F/37.7°C. Rectally it is also about 99.6°F/37.7°C. In reality, rectal and aural temperatures are much closer to our core body temperature than oral or axillary temperatures. The previous numbers were averages that vary from person to person. The standard variation of oral temperature is between 96.4°F/35.8°C and 99.1°F/37.3°C.

Scientifically speaking, the NORMAL human body temperature is 37 degree Celcius[or 98.6 degrees Fahrenheit].....If we know the celcius[centigrade]reading then we can calculate the Fahrenheit value[or vice versa is also true]by this simple formula....
C/5[C divided by 5]=F-32/9[F-32 divided by 9]
But,it is not constant always in human body.People with temp.equals to 99 degree F or with 97 degrees F are found to be perfectly normal.....i.e.....not ill.
