Don't do it by yourself. I have had both. If you get it crooked it looks horrible (belly button) and if you do your tounge and it goes through any of the nerves it can ruin your tounge and even make you loose sensation. IF you must, I would say you could do your naval, it just might look funny and you need a needle with a hollow middle. The tounge, that is a no go. It is very dangerous.

Of coarse the safest way is to go to the tattoo parlour and let them do it but if you must do it the cheapest way then use ice to get your skin completely numb and then use a sharp long nail or needle to pierce the skin and then take a surgical steel bar or ring and insert while the needle or nail is still in place. The bellybutton takes over a year to heal with getting it done professionally and it get infected all the time even with the proper care. Just make sure you use Dove soap to clean it two times a day and make sure you move the ring or bar back and fourth several times a day and remove the crust from around the incision.

i tried to pierce my belly button and let me tell you...ouch! It was a disaster! First- it's super hard to get the piercing even when doing it on yourself. Second - It's harder than you think to pierce that area...you need to apply a lot of pressure. I did this by jumping on a flat surface because the object i was using to pierce my belly button got stuck half in, half out. I was in excruciating pain but couldnt tell anyone or ask for help because i would have gotten in trouble.
After all that pain all I wound up with was an infection.

Unless you have sterile equipment or have a desire for an infection, I would go to a reputable place and have someone who knows what they are doing perform the piercings.

please don't attempt this urself....its not healthy...and u need the proper training, u can hit the wrong nerve whichc can be extremely dangerous and in some cases, fatal....
Dont do something stupid to save a couple of bucks
and even if you pierce it yourself, purcahsing the proper equipment, which would cost more then getting it done professionally.

Geez...don't do it yourself, please! Go to someone who is actually trained and licensed to do it. You risk screwing something up (especially your tongue) way too much by doing it on your own.
