There's lots of details on this one- bare with me cause I could really use the help! I started this job 4 months ago. I found out I was pregnant 3 weeks after I was hired and was straight up with them about it. They were okay about that. When I was hired, I was hired as a drafter. I told them in the interview I wanted responsibility and to move up. After being here a month, I started training on a chain account we have here as a customer service rep for their jobs. It was great!!! I loved the pressure, the business, the responsibility, everything! Well, then after I'd been on that job for about 3 months, they hired in a guy who had a pre-law degree but had never worked one day in his life. He is now taking this project I have and I'm getting bumped back down to drafting again! Now I don't even want to mess with this place. I have no drive in my job at all.... I was given a taste of something I loved and everyone knew I loved and then it was taken. What do I do?

I'd stick around a little while and feel it out. I'm in a similar situation where I would much rather be doing another aspect of my job (which I'm good at doing and like much more), but there's not many people who are good at another aspect so I get stuck on it continually. The management knows that I'm not happy there, so they're trying to find someone else (since they know I'll probably leave if they don't).

If it seems like with the next project he's getting dibs over you, then maybe it's time to approach your employer and ask why. Who knows, they might training him because they have a bigger and better project for you in the works.

since the boss told you that you did a good job-- that is a good thing-- perhaps he or she feels that you are more valueable doing another chore and put you back there for a reason. you can always look for another employer if this is what you choose-- have the boss give you a letter of recommendation for your next prospective employer would be a plus. i have found out that learning various trades thru the years is valueable information altho some jobs can be frustrating and not have a good chance for advancement. do what you would like-- remember you are not married to a certain job and trying to improve yourself and payscale is a good thing. tell your boss that you missed what you were doing and if you done good-- why not ask for a pay raise?? alot of times the company will offer you more money if your one of their outstanding employees-- good luck

Mr pre law is probably a friend or relative of a company bigee. Hang in there. He may fail or not get along with the client.
If your boss is happy with you, give yourself time. You really have not been on the payroll very long. Unless the boss is acomplete phoney you probably have a decent future with the company. They didn'y downsize you when the new guy came on board.

Actually the are discriminating against you as you must have an inkling of or you wouldn't have mentioned it here.

Of course they have a right to have someone prepared to take over for you when you go on maternity leave, but to demote you is illegal.

I wouldn't say anything to them yet, but I would investigate what your rights are under the law. You might have a lawsuit.

Good luck.

They likely want someone who can stay on the account. You can return to work and do more projects long-term after you have the kid.

I would not quit. Sad to say but they are probably waiting to see if you come back after you have your baby. I would wait it out and when you come back address the situation
