McCarthy... Cold War Question?
Yes this is my homework. And yes, I should be doing it myself. I just cannot find the answer to this question... all of the others on the assignment I have had little or no problem with. Please help me... thanks so much.

"To what extent did McCarthy's critisms differ from the goals of the government's cold war policies? What goals motivated McCarthy? Why?"

I believe his goal was to expose corrupt communist supporters within the American Government?

I thank you for your help...

McCarthy wanted to expose spies. The government knew some of the spies, and could read some of the soviet codes- and was therefore not interested in exposing the known spies -as they would be soon replaced by unknown people. Moreover, known spies, if unaware of being tailed, might lead investigators to other, unknown spy rings.
Which is one of the reasons why the US government allowed McCarthy to be denigrated in public and did nothing to change the "witch hunt" image he was saddled with.

That is exactly it. McCarthy was a super patriot. He may have been a bit paranoid, but he had good reason. Spys in the US government were the worst thing to ever happen during the Cold War in the US Government. The fact that he was trying to expose those people was what got him into big trouble. Thats when people started calling it a witch hunt. He may have been extreme, but only because he was trying to protect the country against communists.

You have to understand that back in the cold war everyone was scared of a nuclear war breaking out. They were afraid that the russians were spying on us and they tried to expose russian spies all around. this paranoia led McCarthy to point the finger at the nearest person. this frenzy of fear scared everyone even further. Yes, McCarthy's goal was to expose Communist spies but by trying to do that he put some innocent people in trouble with his accusations.

McCarthy was a corrupt, ignorant, scare-mongering fool his aims were increasing his own profile and making himself more powerful within the senate. The government aims were to protect US interests which meant containing communism

like it or no longer the two events have replaced and not for the greater suitable i'm afraid. The Democrat celebration isn't the celebration that my father knew its no longer even the comparable celebration that I joined while i replaced into the right age to vote.they have become the celebration of severe taxes and bureaucratic administration. The Republican celebration stood for small government, much less government spending and much less interference interior the lives of the voters and we are able to make certain the place we are to-day , the biggest government ever and spending is out of sight. i do no longer think of Dwight Eisenhower or John Kennedy might very proud of their events to-day.
