I've been seeing plaid, and vests, and ugly long skirts. Overalls!? seriously!!! Flannel in stores like American Eagle, what is up with that! and those horrible ugly chunky heels. and the skinny jeans (those are a little bit better but still 90s)

I'd say skinny jeans are more '80's? I could be wrong. I was little back then.
Flannel, vests, and plaid are back but MUCH MORE CHIC than before. That's the thing with fashion. You can't keep your outfits from two decades ago and expect to look good when that look comes back. It's always a little different and a little better.
Layering is key now. Vests are not as ugly if you wear them with a button down, collarLESS shirt and unbutton the shirt a little so that it hangs over the vest a bit.
Flannels layered over peasant-y looking tops and skinny jeans.
Same with plaids. I will never like plaids because my mom made me wear them all the time when I was little and I hated her for it but we're not talking about the little school girl skirt you might remember for your Brittney Spears days.
Looking like a peasant is in but do it with care. You don't want to look like you're going to a Halloween party in November. Skirts cut on the bias and that touch the floor are great, but wear a corset over a shirt so that everything isn't gigantic and you look like a tent.
I'll have to agree with you on the chunky shoes thing though. It looks trashy.
Do what you like. Be comfortable. Even if it's the hottest trend - if it doesn't look good on you, it won't look fashionable.

I agree, the 90's were full of mistakes, but I feel the same about most of the 80's (I like some of the new come backs)

LOL! I said that when hip huggers came back! Most people do not look good in those unless they are skinny and have no stomach and small hips! But was really surprised at the people who were wearing them! The truth is sweety everything always comes back around in fashion! It's like one big circle. You will see that as you go on through life.

Everything eventually comes back in fashion. If you don't like it don't buy it. That's pretty much my idea when it comes to clothing fads. I try to buy classic pieces that will withstand any fad. :)
