Because they are. Lieberman is only an Independent because he had to be to get on the ballot; he's a long time Democrat and he promised to play nice with the Democrats as an Independent. The Senator from Vermont made the same promise.

As Independents, they are required to join one caucus or the other, since on their own merit they have absolutely no power. As a non-Democrat member of the Democratic caucus, both independents wield unimaginable influence, and don't be surprise if the Republicans try to pry one or both of them loose if Virginia do go to the Democrats.

It's good to be Joe Lieberman right now...

I have no idea why people are doing that, but it seems they are.It is true though, that they are the two most powerful people in the senate. The swing votes.

Since 1992 96% of GOP voted only on party lines, 94% of Democrats voted strict party lines and Independents voted 0% only party lines.

They are and I don't understand. Lieberman was stabbed in the back by his own party!!! He will make them pay in the long run, not to mention he supports Bush on most issues!!!

Because they have openly stated they will vote with the Democrats against the NEOCON gross agenda.

Its our "unbiased" liberal media again, telling people they will vote with the dems.

Counting chickens before they hatch, in my opinion.
