I live in San Antonio, Texas. Some of our elected officials recently went to Phoenix, AZ to check out a "Tent City" they have in their prison system.

The inmates live in tents, No A/C, use Port-o-potties, they get two meals a day, brunch and dinner, not real good food, No television, they rough it.

They say it is curtailing second offenses. In San Antonio, they are looking at it because they believe, and I agree, that they are having people commit crimes so they can be put back in the system, have a roof over their heads, 3 meals a day.

I think it would be great. Why should I work hard every day to keep a roof over my head, feed my family, etc. and these criminals have it better than me. I don't think it's cruel either.

Of course some of these newly elected Democrats (Bleeding Heart Liberals) would not approve.

Boy, I really pissed Kingdom off.

You really don't think that some people are committing crimes for that reason.

Why would I go out and commit a crime, etc. like you said. I go to work everyday and make my own way. Always have, always will.

By the way, the point of the question was not "if" people are committing crimes for that reason, but "if" we should have "tent cities" Chill out.

i would say yes with some rules. a prisoner shoudn't be forced to go to tent city. there should be some sort of incentive to go to tent city, like some time off the sentence or something. if a prisoner volunteers to go to tent city, they will be cheaper to house, and by volunteering to go to tent city, there wouldn't be lawsuits because the prisoner volunteered to be there.

If you think prison life is so wonderful because you don't have to work and you get free food etc why don't you just commit a crime and go live in there yourself? Your kids can go to foster homes (or even better, juvenile prison) and enjoy the same wonderful lifestyle as you. You'll be model community citizens.

I can't believe people even think like you.

You honestly think people would give away their freedom just to go get free food and bed from the goverment when they could be oh I dunno - dealing drugs and earning $$$$ outside instead?

And if people commited crimes just to experience the wonderful Abu Ghraib treatment in prison, wouldn't the appropriate way of dealing with that be to NOT put them in prison inspite of what crimes they commit so they couldn't ever leech off the govt?

Of course some of these sore-loser Republicans (Right Wing Nutjobs) would not approve.

I'm all for chain gangs. So what does that tell you?

However, if it's a problem that people have it worse off outside of jail, doesn't that say something about the climate of our society?

Like birth control, it's best to solve the problem before it starts.

Actually, I am a Democrat and I approve. However, as someone else said, we need to stop many problems before they happen. Better sex education would lead to less unplanned pregnancies which would lead to less unwanted children which would lead to less crime.
We need to pour money into schools and kids so they don't end up in jail, saving us money in the long run.

I think it has it's pro's and con's. Many will say that prisoners have "too many" rights-sometimes I agree.
prison shouldn't be seen as "wow! I can get fed three times a day and live tax-free!"...it should be seen as what it was originally intended for, as a way of punishment.

I'm all for it. Every state and every town needs to
do the same thing. It would cut down on costs, and
possibly stop repeat offenders. Incendently, (sp?)
I am a liberal.
