It means the nerve has been blocked in some way (either literally pinched or simply unable to fully function due to temporarily blocking it, like when your foot goes to sleep). Usually the temporary issues go away but a pinched nerve in the spine is extremely painful and usually needs medical care. If pinched for too long a nerve will atrophy (which means die) and then the muscles it innervates (that means controls) will no longer be able to function as well or at all.
Hope that helps!

A nerve with unnatural pressure on it. Usually in the spine as the disc between are vertebre are not bone but cushion and can rupture or deteriorate over time and the nerve becomes pinched.

I have a pinched nerve on my right hand along the side of my thumb, it's a tingley feeling, like kinda numb. And when you put it against something cold it feels weird. I believe I got it when I slept on my hand and it fell asleep for so long, it ended up getting pinched.
