I have been offered a promotion from another division and now I must leave at the start of the project I was hired for, but at a much lower position and the location of the site was less than desirable, now I can stay where I am and have an outstanding postion as a manager for airbus in europe for the rest of my carrer I will be much better off in the new slot. I just dont want to completely alienate my old boss.

pull them aside and explain to them your situation. Any human being would understand that you were offered something better and they hopefully can see that. Also, write a letter thanking them for there time and all the knowledge you gathered form them. Put in the last 2 weeks. Even if your boss is mad or hurt..at least you left the job with good standards, if you have to have a reference for them..they can't say you didn't put your 2 weeks in.

The best thing to do is be honest with your boss. Tell them that it is an opportunity that you just cannot refuse, and they should understand. Offer to lend assistance in the training of your replacement, and if you really want to impress them, offer to lend phone and email support to them for the first couple weeks after you leave the position.
