Here's my question... in the new Borat film, are the people he encounters actors? Is it like a Spinal Tap/Best in Show kind of thing, or are the people unaware that Cohen is an actor? Film looks fantastic either way, but I gotta know... thanks.

As Sasha said in an interview recently, "only one of us knows we are in a comedy sketch".

I saw the movie and here are some thoughts from the scenes I remember:

Most of it in the US was staged. The only scenes which I think were "somewhat" real were:

- the humor coach, but it wasn't that outrageous.
- when they ran naked through the conference. They were tackled pretty hard.
- trying to check into the four star hotel as a "playa". It was late at night and a real scene would have been easier to pull off.
- I also heard the rodeo scene was pretty much true, but you didn't see the police escort he needed to get out so he wouldn't get killed.

Everything else, IMO, was staged. You could tell by the circumstances or horrible acting (Jewish couple at the B&B).

Pam Anderson was definitely staged. There is no way he would have gotten as far as he did (chasing her in the parking lot) in a real situation.

Also, keep in mind:

1. It's hard for people NOT to notice the camera in their face to know something is up.
2. Borat probably had hundreds of scenes to choose from for the film and chose the ones he did for a reason.

I would imagine that Sasha Baron Cohen utilized elements from "This is Spinal Tap" in making "Borat." Borat actually convinced many people that he was a reporter from Kazakhstan but he failed to persuade the White House guard of his credentials in late September. On "Da Ali G Show" - the guests probably know that they are being interviewed by someone in character; otherwise, they wouldn't consent to being interviewed for comedic gain.

In a small number of cases, they are actors. Most of the time, they are real people who don't know Borat is fake.

I would say most of the scenes in Borat are staged. Some of them may not have been, like the ettiquette scene, but the NYC subway and street scenes (where he is running after people) look like they're all actors.

The black prostitute Luenell is an actress. And his wrestling buddy Azamat is a veteran actor. It looks like they have worked mostly as extras.

I dont know , i cant believe i cant believe he is categorized as an actor.... Thats probably why you cant tell if the others are or not...cause there is no difference.

Almost all of them are led to believe that it is a legitimate Kazakh documentary. And have no idea that they are being played.

No, they are not actors. They're real people. And they are unaware that he is an actor.

I'd be surprised if they weren't in on the gag, or at least figured out it was a prank.
