Well you're question is not that specific. By the most expensive place to live do you mean the most expensive cost of living (i.e. how much a bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich costs at the local supermarket) or housing costs (i.e. houses in this area sell for at least 1 million dollars.)
As far as cost of living the most expensive places to live is: 1) Tokyo, Japan followed by London, UK, and Moscow. New York City is number 12.
The cities with the highest housing costs I would assume that Farfield County, CT, Westchester, NY, Key Biscayne, and Beverly Hills would be fairly expensive.

Ireland definitely - since the Celtic Tiger and the euro things have been getting more and more expensive. It is next to impossible to get a foot on the property ladder and the government don't give a Sh*t about us. Next year when the mortgage rate goes up the banks are going to have a great time repossessing all the houses.

Alaska. I lived in Sitka and all of the food came on barges. In the winter it was all frozen. Milk was almost $5 per gallon. Everything there was imported with the exception of seafood of course. Still, even it was very expensive.
