Cost is dependent on the processing power and amount of RAM on the card. The newest cards historically will coat more than cards that are a couple of years old. There is a matter of interface type also to consider when buying a video card. Newer cards will have PCI Express architecture while older cards will use AGP or PCI.

The video card translates the data coming from the processor and produces your video graphics(pictures). Most now use an AGP interface. The new motherboards use PCIe interface. Prices range from $20US to $1000's . depends on what you intend to do with your computer! ;-)=
