although he was doing a terrible job Bush said he wasn't going anywhere. since the dems took over congress was this his way of trying to appease the dems. and if the dems lost the elections isn't it true that Rumsfeld would still be a puppet for Bush?
doesn't that tell the repugs that the war is a lie?

"Do you believe that Rumsfeld was the fallguy?"
No.
Rummy is out to save his own azz.
Whatever he said in public was for show.
Bush probably was asked by Rummy to leave in this manner, in order to give Bush some street cred, but only a fool would buy into that crap.

"doesn't that tell the repugs that the war is a lie?"
The true-blue (well, red staters) Republicans are true believers.
they do not question anything that Bush or other party leaders tell them.
they will continue to believe to the very end, that the Iraq debacle is going well, and was justified.
You might as well be talking to a wall when dealing with these type of people.

No. I think the Bush administration felt if Rumfeld didn't leave now (on their own terms), he would have been forced to leave with the embarassment that comes along with an impeachment trial. Rumsfeld no longer has to face the possibility of Congress forcing him out and Bush can praise his leaving rather than facing a defeat at the hands of a Democrat-led Congress.

I don't think he was trying to appease the Democrats. I believe he was tryingto appease the ctizens of this country including those in office and those in the military. The President received a rather clear message yesterday. Many people realized last night that Secretary Rumsfeld's days in the administration were numbered.

Rumsfeld was the architect of the Iraq fiasco along with Cheney and Paul Wolfowitz (World Bank). They ALL need to be marginalized for the protection of the country and the world.

Bush made a shrewd move.
He paved the way for an easier transition with the dems concerning the war.
Rumsfeld was no fall guy.
He has been ineffective for the last 3 years.
I'm glad he's gone.
The war is no lie------------ the way we've been conducting it is pathetic.

No, he was not the fall guy.

Rumsfeld was a very powerful and aggressive Department Secretary. He was the one giving orders, not taking them.

The Iraq War was his baby. He planned it, pushed for it, even fired Generals and Admirals who bitterly disagreed with him when it started to go bad.

Rumsfeld may be a lot of things, but he was no ones puppet.

One of the main reasons Bush lost in this election is Rummy. Thats why he is removed from his job.
