I also have a picc line installed due to all my visits, My question is ITCHING is this a normal factor of being pregnant or maybe this is a reaction from one of my meds?

I am itching all over i stayed up 2 hours last night i tried a shower, i tried lotion i doint know what else to dp, Doc suggested benedril but not something i feel comfortable taking......any Help please!

OMG, I ITCHED SO BAD when I was pregnant!!! It was on my LEGS!! I used to sit with a plastic picnic-type butter knife and run it up and down my shins!!! I had a solid scab down the front of my shins it was so bad (yeah, sounds gross, but I was miserable!) and NOTHING helped! Benadryl did NOTHING.

My miracle cure?? Believe it or not, I bought those packets of Aveeno that you dump in the tub (there's like 8-10 packets in a box), and I think I bought either the kind for eczema, or sensitive skin, or something....I remember the package is tan with black writing and the only real 'color' was Dark Blue.
I took TWO baths with two of these packets dumped in each bath and my itching stopped COMPLETELY!
I NEVER itched again!! I swear it. I don't know what the deal was, I didn't use any lotions or anything.
I seriously can say I would recommend sitting in this stuff in the tub---IT WORKS!!!!

Itchy skin is itchy skin and its absolutely horrible. I have suffered itchy skin for the last 30 years on and off. No-one, including doctors knows what causes it. Sometimes I itch on my hands, sometimes all over. At one stage the itch was so bad I used to rake my skin with a fork...it was the only way I could get relief....It got very sore, but at least I was not itchy. I think I have tried everything possible on the market and the only thing that works for me is cold showers or ice where I am itching. Although having the itch all over your body the icy cold shower would be your best bet. Yes, it is very cold, but it kinda numbs your skin and after a while the itch goes away. I have slept with an ice pack on my skin to take away the itch sometimes and it allows me to go to sleep. When I wake up the itch is gone. I can go weeks and months without an itch, but I always have ice packs handy in the freezer just in case because I never know when the itch will attack.

Is your belly itching or your entire body? Try this, you may hv to go to the health food store to get it: Shea Butter. It's not cheap, it costs between $7-10 for a bug jar, but it is the best thing for skin. Also, almond oil is excellent as well! You can try using them together, what I do is put a little of the shea butter in my hand, and then use the almond oil to stretch it out more. These are 100% natural products so there arent any fragrances or additional additives to irritate your skin further. Do not buy cocoa butter as a substitute, its less expensive, but it is not effective, plus it has so many other ingredients that will not benefit your skin. Hope this helps. -Janet

First of all allow me to say congratulations, Im sixteen weeks as well, due on april 26th. Itching is actually ,and not surpisingly with all of the other rather unpleasant side effects of pregnancy, very common (I have it as well, my hands, feet, stomach, arms , legs, breasts). I have found that CONSTANT lotion and taking a shower every other day...(which sounds strange but I tried it because it works for my hair, why not my skin right? That and I did it for my first son when he was a baby) Use baby lotions, try no perfumes, sensitive skin style. Maybe you should see a dermatolofgist honey.

At first I would think it was due to your skin stretching...but it very well may be a side effect of your meds. Look them up on the net and see if itching is a side effect...
I know it is maddening, but exhaust all avenues before resorting to yet another medication. Try warm baths with the Aveeno stuff and douse your skin in baby oil or really rich moisturizers. Good luck! and Congrats on the twins!

With my last pregnancy I itched constantly for almost 6 months. I LITERALLY scratched myself raw.(then got an infection from scratching so much) I tried everything-benadryl, steriod shots, lotions, creams, baths. It was insane. I usually got about 2 hours of sleep a night cuz the itching was so bad. ASk your dr about steriod shots which sometimes help. I also found some lotion that contained lidocaine(a numbing medication) which helped for a few hours so I could sleep. Just ask your dr before you try it. I did find out it could be a sign of liver problems so make sure you have your liver function tested(mine was fine) GOODLUCK!

Itching is common during pregnancy, especially on your stomach because the skin is streching and getting tighter and tighter and I know that it drives a lot of women insane--the benedryl might help, or a soothing, cooling anti-itch lotion---i like Gold Bond, but shop around for something you might like to try--they even have unscented ones if you are concerned about that. Good Luck!

It could be from the meds, but I always had very dry itchy skin with both my pregnancies. The best advice is lots of water, avoid hot showers and the only lotion that was worth a hoot to calm the itchies was oil of Olay Quench lotion. (purple bottle)

How long have you been taking all these anti nausea meds? Is it possible you are having an allergic reaction to one of these? Try soaking in a bath with Aveeno oatmeal bath. But if it persists, call your doc or go to emerg. Good luck and take care! Congrats on your twins!

it depends on where you are itching. your skin is probably stretching, i know when i was pregnant with my twins i felt like using a wire brush to scratch everywhere. try using extra virgin olive oil on your belly. it acts like a lubricant and just use a little. lotions didn't work for me either. and i hated wearing clothes that touched my belly. every material itched. good luck and hang in there
