He might need a rice based formula. There are very rare cases where a baby is allergic to the soy formulas. But I have a feeling the one you're giving him is probably fortified with the wrong minerals.

Make sure the formula you're giving him doesnt have extra iron in it, iron will make him constipated, as will nervousness. Try to remain calm, it will help him to stay calm, and keep him from getting colicy and bound up.

You can get him a baby supository to help him with his constipation, ask your doctor about one. Lay him across your lap with his legs hanging over the side and gently rub his back.

If he is stopped up for more than three days call your doctor and let him know your child hasnt been able to have a bowel movement.

You're not supposed to give cow's milk to children under 12 months to begin with, their tummies can't handle it. Ask your pediatrician about formulas that are easier on the belly. My daughter, though she is mostly breast-fed likes Gentle-Ease by Enfamil the few times I do supplement her. Helps with gas too. Good luck!

I gave my son apple juice. Gerber has a juice for infants. Mix one part juice to one part water and only feed about 2 ounces. Good luck! Also, iron has NOT been linked to constipation - it is a misconception. Do NOT feed your baby Silk or cow's milk and if he is only 2 days old, do NOT give him anything but formula!

he probably has trapped gas. try other kinds of formulas. ask your dr. of other formulas you could try and if you are not satisfied with the answer than seek a second opinion. but as for constipation at that age it is normal. his body is still adjusting to formula. try mylocon drops for gas and maybe add a little iron to the fromula. you could also ask a pharmysist what they would recommend

Try to get his body moving during the day. Lay him on his back and do the bicycle movement with his legs....That type o fthing it will help make things move better when they are coming out.

DONT give his SILK. it's good for adults but he needs more nutrition.
Talk to the DR. and get him on a different formula.
He is also too young for non-formula/breastmilk foods.

Your baby's body was *designed* to digest your breastmilk. It is the healthiest, most nutritious, and easiest to digest option you have. I would hope that you would give it a chance - it is not too late.

Yes, fruit and fruit juice should loosen things up. Also massage his tummy in a circular motion--that calms most babies.

Sounds like a lack of fiber or potassium. Having a lack of either of those will cause you to be constipated.
