By 2010, the Republican bashing should be over and the Republicans should be able to regain the Senate. However, some things are going to happen before then.
In 2008, twenty Republican seats and thirteen Democrat seats will be up in the Senate. Now, if the Democrats do an okay job (they do not have to be phenomenal--just as long as things get better during their watch in Iraq and the economy does not tank and if they pass something significant--like raising the minimum wage), they will gain seats in the Senate and the House of Representatives in 2008, and they will have a better than good chance of taking the White House (considering that a certain blonde is NOT the candidate).
If that's the case, the Dems will get an unified government in 2008, but lose it when the Republicans take the Senate in 2010. The Democrats will start to suffer from voter fatigue and may lose the House as well in 2010 or 2012, but that doesn't seem likely.
But, I could be wrong about that.

Give them a few months to adjust to the new structure and lets all try to work together .
We already know what is not working so lets try to find some new workable solutions to the same old problems .
It is still those in control verses those who would like to be in control .Once you can determine which you are then it becomes easy to deal with the problems .You take the control away from those who have it by raising the taxes enough that they shut up and go away .
In the 1950's we had a 75% tax bracket on the ones in control and the workers had one income and raised a generation on it .Till we hit the 70's and the ship hit the fan. To many kids went to college and are no disillusioned with the world as it is and wanted to change it .
Hard work at a good paying job and women in low paying part-time service work is the best possible scenario for America .
Other wise we all become separate like we are today doing our own thing and never committing to anything and changing course whenever the water gets a little choppy .Do you think that your garbage man is beneath you or your waiter or waitress .
We all find a nitchin this world we can be happy with and it has nothing to do with how smart someone is .
Look at Bush His family and money made it possible for him to got to one of the top colleges avoid active service in vietnam and become president .
It is not so much what you know it is who you know and how much money you have .
Lets bring us all closer together and bring back the 75% tax rates we once had on the rich who can well afford it .Democrats and republicans spent over a billion dollars on jobs that will pay only 200,000 per year per man for 2-6 years for 600 people tops .120,000,000 million in pay and a billion spent to get it .
Some people have way to much money and way to much control and desire for power .
Lets tax them at 75% and see how they like it .I have nothing that i am willing to die for being a poor man .So why should i pay so much of the little i have to my government .They make the roads so i can get to work and make others rich I pay for my health care myself my food rent insurance so what does the government do for me .Nothing .I pay to support its programs and pay taxes to be used to assist the rich to be able to move products and jobs around the world to increase profits at whose expense.

They will have to first abandon the extremist right wing social conservate agenda and try to regain the confidence of the fiscal conservate base, which they forgot about for the past six years. It will take awhile.

6 years, at that time we will be in our next recession cycle, they come around like clockwork every 6-8 years. Of course the uninformed voting public think that who's ever in charge causes the recession, little do they know that neither party can cause one, they are cyclical in nature.
