Because the material traps little pockets of air which retain the person's body heat.

And if you don't mind being corrected, the word is 'underwear.'

I wonder this, too. It must be something about the texture, how it's woven or whatever. That texture must help to keep heat in or something.

because of the way that they are constructed & put together helps to keep ody heat in & the cold out
