I took a home test on Nov 3 that came positive. However the week prior to that I had what I considered an abnormal period (Less than usual and very dark) it lasted for about 9 days. I had a blood test to confirm the home test on Nov 6 it came back postive however when I explained about the bleeding the nurse said that my BHCG level was on the low side and that I may have miscarried already. She booked me in for an ultrasound for the 14th and wrote on my form that my BHCG Level was >5 and they were checking for viable pregnancy. I have also been cramping and have sharp pains in my lower abdomen. Should I be concerned of ectopic or miscarriage or is this a somewhat normal occurance

If you are super concerned with this and the doctor can't get you in sooner. THEN BY ALL MEANS GO TO THE NEAREST ER. They can do a scan and tests there to find out what is going on.

It's possible you had one, you should talk to the doctor since they did the tests. They should be able to tell you what happened.
