Ok, so. We all know that when we get a tongue piercing done, it will most likely swell. HOW LONG DOES THE SWELLING LAST UP TO? And is it hard to speak, is there a MAJOR difference when you talk? (I'm kinda tryna hide a tongue piercing from my mom when I get it.) And, we also all know that once you get a tongue piercing done, you need to keep the newly piercing in till it heals. But can i keep the original bar in and change the two balls on top & bottom? PLEASE HELP!

Any qualified piercer will not pierce you under the age of 18 (16 in some states), without parental permission. They risk losing their business license and in some states, can be prosecuted for doing so. Would you really trust someone to pierce you that doesn't pay attention to the law? If they don't pay attention to law, what makes you so certain that they pay attention to proper sterilization techniques, in order to keep you safe? Think about it for a while.

Don't get the piercing if you have to hide it. 9 times out of 10, kids end up getting caught anyway and then they have to take the piercing out and lose trust from their parents. It's not a good situation. If your parents don't want you to have the piercing, wait until you're out of their house until you get it and don't have to hide it. Piercings are a big responsibility, as you need to practice proper aftercare.

It's not advised that you switch the balls on the barbell until the piercing is healed. The more you handle your piercing, the more chance the risk for infection. Leave it alone. Rinse with Biotene mouthwash (don't use Listerine or any other mouthwash with alcohol in it - these are too harsh for piercings and can do more harm than good) after every meal and do a sea salt rinse at least once a day. This will promote healthy healing and can help to heal it faster.

Cold water (avoid sodas and other sugary drinks/foods while it's healing) helps ease swelling and pain, as does sucking on ice. Stick to soft foods the first week, generally. It will take a lot of practice to eat and speak with the jewelry in and not bit down on it. Don't play with the jewelry and don't click it on your teeth, no matter how tempting. This can cause thousands of dollars worth of dental damage.

'Hi, i didnt speak weird at all after i had mine and i did have a pretty big swollen tongue. The swelling stays very long, like 2 to 3 weeks and even when it feels like back to normal, it takes 8 weeks to fully heal. You can change the balls, but it is not advisable. the metal balls for one are cleaner and less likely to help an infection (as opposed to acrylic balls). Also, you might accidentally pull out the bar and you're in trouble then.

I'm all for the pericing for you but you should at least let an adult know your doing it! MAKE SURE YOU DON"T EAT HARD FOODS for the first 24 HOURS at least or you could rip it out because no scar tissue has been able to form!
IT HURTS BAD...
but the swelling depending on your body and healing self! should be done with in 3 days mine only lasted for 1 day and start to go down after then! My speach was not effected just make sure you talk slower!
The orginal bar is larger for the swelling HARD TO HIDE! but you need to keep that one in! for at least a week!... i would keep in for a month if i were you!
It is going to be hard to hide it from your mom..
mainly your going to sound drunk and don't drink with it being new.. ensure to keep it clean! watch your salt intake too at first want to see something that burns! get a chip stuck in that hole!!! omg it hurts more then getting it done! but getting it done don't hurt that bad but if you get something stuck times that pain by 25% and it's on going untill you take what ever is stuck out!
ask someone with dentures how it feels to get something stuck in the plate of there mouth! OCHY

But yea it's cool to have a toungue ring! i got one and will never take it out!
:)
Tell you mom k!

you will talk funny and it will most likely swell but it might not it is different for everyone there are ways you can hide it from your mom just don't talk to her or say words with l in them or open your mouth a lot by the way if you are under a certain age you can't usually get piercings without a parents permission so sorry if you can't it hurts anyway and can get infected really easily so if i were you i really wouldn't get it done

I had mine pierced and it swelled up for about 2 days. There is a difference in talking until you get used to talking with a stud in your tongue. It will be almost impossible to hide it though. If you plan on not telling mom, don't talk to her face to face, like looking in her face, when you are talking. There is really no way to hide it. GOod luck!

You ~will~ talk funny for a week! And you can't hide it either.

But yes you can change the balls if you are careful not to let the bar slip out...
