Why don' t you get her a Audio book ? Something she can listen to when she has some time !

from the sound of it u may be teasing ur wife about her not being able to read since u made you question sound so fuc* up. why cant you sit down and try and help her read? why must u buy hook on phonics? that sure would be a hurtful thing to ur wife that u come off to her like that. so try to be a lot nicer and stop thinking just cause you can read she needs phonics i bet u tease her when u get mad at her i hope not. im not rying to be mean but ur question could have been less mean sounding. no dont but that try n help her to read it can be done

Phonics is very helpful. Will help with reading and writing. Don't ever say there is "no hope"; please be patient with her. She will do her best, at least she is trying!
Approach her as trying to help her. Don't be forceful or demeaning to her when you offer her the book(s). Let her know it's out of love, that you want her to do well and succeed.
