I have been doing a lot of research and have read that you can have your period when you are pregnant. I have been having pregnancy signs and have been getting my period but they have not been normal some longer some shorter. They also have been spotty and a little light. I am not sure if I still could be. I have taken pregnancy tests but I have also read they can even give you false readings more often in the beginning of your pregnancy. My boyfriend and I really need to know if I am or not due to financial reasons. I have an appointment next week and I was wondering when is a good time for my ob/gyn to check to see if I may be pregnant. Should I be so far along before he checks for that?

Doctor checks for hormones in your blood. Anytime is a good time.

I think that false negatives are more common than false positives, and you can definitely continue to have your period through pregnancy - though often it is a sign of complications so the sooner you can get in to your doc, the better!

I don't know whether the test are coming out positive or negative, but the tests usually are a pretty good indication of your condition. Especially if you get two tests w/ the same answer, the 2nd test's answer is a confirmation of the 1st answer. But of course, the Dr's offc will give you a definitive answer that you can trust! -Janet

If you've had periods since the time when you think you became pregnant it's been enough time for your doctor to tell.
