i have the tab, but the part where it picks up speed right after the slow intro seems to be repeated on the song although it doesnt indicate in the tab to repeat, and even if i play it quick it doesnt sound like it. i have looked in a lot of tab sites but the tabs are the same. any pointers?

I know exactly what you mean. I love that song and your right all the tabs do seem to be wrong when the song picks up. I don't know how to play the part that picks up and have not been able to find any legit books. If you watch the performances on you tube there are some really good guitarist who play this song many different ways. I think if you could find it in music notation rather than tab it is more likely to be correct cuz it seems like most of the good classical players prefer notation over tab. Clapton also plays this song you might be able to find the way he plays it in a book.

classical gas is such a great guitar song! im impressed. your best bet is to listen to the song slowly, like pause it in between notes, and try to hear & find what notes they are. im not realy clear on your question though. if the tab is actually correct, just keep playing it, it might eventually sound like it. or have someone listen to you playing it and ask them. or, try playing along with the song. good luck
