Could anyone tell me how to make an ad? I want to make an ad to sell some items. I want to put copies of my contact (name, e-address, etc.) besides pictures of the items in a sheet, so that people who are interested in the items can take away a piece of a copy of my contact. Which of Word and Excel do you suggest to use for this?

If i had to choose between the two programs, I would always use Word for this.
I am assuming that If you have access to Word & Excel then you would also have access to Powerpoint. If this is the case, then use Powerpoint. It allows more flexability in the placing of seperate pictures and text boxes then Word or Excel.
Powerpoint is designed for presentations, but I have found that it is a great tool for doing posters and business cards, when I dont have access to Publisher or a similar program. It is easy to use and to manipulate items.

As far as tips to make the ad, it depends on what you are selling.
If its your old car or dishwasher, for example, a simple picture, a headline and info text is all you need eg

TITLE FOR THING FOR SALE!!

------------------
------------------ 2 years old
------------------ $49.00 ono
------------------ Call 01234 56789
------------------

If you are not trying to sell second hand items (garage sale style), but are selling for a business, the remember the 2 S's

Sexy Sells!

Make it look good.
Photos MUST be of the best quality
Proof read and spell check
Colour coordinate

Keep it SIMPLE!!
Adds work best when they are simple and eye catching. Have small print if you need it, but the large print should ONLY tell the main facts, ie what it is, basic description, where to buy etc
small print should be everything else, company info, disclaimer etc

Finally whichever style of add you use, make it stand out. This can be done in one of three ways

1) border art (simple is best, it should attract the eye, to look at the ad, and not be the only reason that you are looking)
2) coloured paper (either plain, or simple paterned)
3) coloured text

To advertise on the cheap, I would advise you to use plain YELLOW paper, as this is the most eye catching colour and will be noticed by more people.

You can "kill two birds with one stone"
Go to http://www.livedeal.com and add you ad to yoru local area .. after you are done with your listing there is a flier that you can download for each of the items you have listed..

It automatically makes the fliers like you are talking about for you.
All you have to do is print it off!

This way you are advertising locally through livedeal.com AND getting your fliers made free and fast!

You should have a nice picture for your product and place your product at a lower price. Then wait for bidders to fight over it and the price will probably go up to the same amount as what the other people are selling the product for (or more).
