Parents have to take responsibility for their children - they have to make good on any wrong their kids do - in the end proper guidance, supervision and discipline would stop a child going wrong in the first place.
A child off the rails can only be seen as a reflection of the poor parenting they have been subjected to.
Sad - but you need a license to own a dog however any mug can become a parent!

Parents are the first teachers of their children. Yes, they are already responsible for them until they are old enough or mature enough to understand.
Many times when the child does crime, it is a result of how they were treated as a child growing up or something that they never receieved from their parents that they needed and wanted. They rebel by doing what most will do to get attention.
Parents already have a responsibility. Those that really do care will do everything for their children, while others won't care anymore. they are already held together with emotional responsibility as well.

What would be the point? Would this be as some kind of deterrent? Bad parents are generally people who don't care much about their kids. The majority of serious youth crime is committed by abused and neglected kids, anyway, so I doubt parents who hurt their kids are all that likely to care that they have to pay for their kids' crimes. If loving your kid isn't a good enough reason to be a good parent, why should the threat of punishment be? By the time a kid is in trouble it's really too late for parents to do anything to correct whatever parenting mistakes they've made and sending parents to jail or taking away their money (especially if they're poor) isn't going to help the kids at all.

Interesting question.
Since children cannot sign contracts - only adults (18 yrs and up) can, then the financial liability for children is on the parents. Think about auto insurance - most parents own the cars so they are required to pay for additional drivers, such as their teenage children.
For criminal acts, many children are tried and convicted as juveniles for criminal acts. It makes no sense to jail a parent for an action committed by one of their kids, especially if there are other minor children at home (who will care for those kids? the government?)

It depends on why the child did it and why the child wasn't being supervised. I would definitely say the parents need to pay for whatever happens as long as its not murder or anything, but if it requires paying a fine, make that child work it off and pay you back. The law holds parents responsible b/c children need to be supervised. You can't get around it. They feel if you're able enough to make them then you should be able to supervise and take care of them. But definitely don't make it easy for them just b/c you may have to bail them out of a situation.

Legally, no. Financially, there must be some style of chop up, greater to the toddler, and an age decrease the place the toddler will ought to handle greater or each and every of the responsiblity. every person who has raised a toddler is familiar with how confusing the teenage years are, and a few infants will continually do the different of what you tell them, no count what and now and back on purpose. once you placed tension on them, they simply leave, and no, you won't be in a position to beat them. unusual dynamics, however the base line must be to the youngsters who make the choice to do the incorrect situation.

Yes
It will show the parent they need to be more involved in the lives of their children, because if they had been exercising their authority the crime or whatever it may be probably would never have happened. Also, if they aren't held responsible it falls to the taxpayers, and I am not picking up after some unruly child.

Should they? Absolutely not! They are because some wacko parents who have good kids think all parents have that kind of influence over their kids. Well, some kids are just made bad, so why should the parents be responsible?

I have never questioned my responsibility, when you give birth to your children you know to what age your responsible, why question it now that they have gone down the wrong path.

yes, it's parents' job to teach children what is right and what is wrong, if a child commits a crime - it's the sign that parents failed to do this job properly
