Wow, that's a good question...I always thought the 3 long lines used to divide up each inch on a 12" ruler were to mark the centimeters, which would make the answer = 4
but that doesn't seem to be the case...
upon "research" it is a fact that 1 inch = 2.45 centimeters

I always use www.onlineconversion.com for converting
just about anything. In this case 2.54 cm/inch

Try go to www.google.com and type in your problem in english and it will work it out for you. For example type:

"1 Inch in centimeters"

and it will reply with

"1 inch = 2.54 centimeters"
