The morning after pill is safe, it's the people that are going to be taking it who aren't. I don't mean because they had unprotected sex, or had a slip-up, I mean there may be women taking the pill who are more that 1-72 hours pregnant and don't know it. There will also be women taking the pill that are on other medications, and may neglect to make the pharmacist aware of that fact, thereby creating some unpleasant side effects. If you are more than 1-72 hours pregnant ( you only have 3 days after having sex to take the morning after pill and have it be effective ) the pill can be very harmful to the fetus. That would then put the woman in the situation of having to decide whether or not to have an abortion. A lot of women may be OK with taking the MAP, but not OK with having an abortion. As far as I know, the MAP itself is safe, it's been around for awhile, and has gained approval from the FDA, however I don't think it's been around long enough for the long term side effects to be effectively studied.

It is usally safe but there is one possible problem. Some women start to hemoorage with its use. That should not deter a lady form using mifepristone (a.k.a RU 486). Just get yo9ur prescription from a caring doctor. And make sure you are monitored after taking (for about 48 hours). You should be near a hospital. Stopping bleeding is not a difficult medical procedure. But it must be done promptly when it is required. The drug prevents implantation in the uterine (womb) wall. It has just been discovered that mifepritone can lift seritonin within hours instead of days or weeks of the soerotonin selective reuuptake inhibitor, (S.S.R.I.), drug family. (e. g. prozac, paxil, zoloft).

define safe--because it will not protect you from any STDs that you may have picked up. The pill itself will not hurt you, it's just a big dose of hormones already in your body.
