It's best to leave the computer on at all times.

when you shut down the computer, it's like starting it up for the first time. The very first start up is really hard on the computer.
Running all the time is best for the computer, but set your monitor to turn off at a set time, as well as your speakers.

to shut it down at night is not only hard on the computer, it's hard on the fan, cause look at for example a ceiling fan, when it stops it loads up with dust, then when you start it again dust flys around right?
Well with the computer, same thing.. it sucks dust into it, when the fan is constantly going it's like an air purifier it sucks it in, and blows it out etc. When you shut it down, it will jam it up full of dust and it's really hard on it when you start it up again.

If you have only one account on your P.C., logging off is of no use. Standby is made for being efficeint with your energy. It will only run a few required processes. It is best to shut off your computer on a daily basis. If you know you will not return to it for use within a few hours, power it off. A computer in idle will still result in wear -n- tear over time. Shut it down.

The best thing to do is to turn your system off, overnight or if it's unused for long periods. Aside from anything else, you're saving energy... and a full power-cycle will reset everything back to a default condition, get rid of those annoying memory leaks, etc, and generally "tidy up" your system

Both methods use caching so it causes your hard drive to become fragmented more quickly and over a long period your system becomes unstable and a reboot is necessary. The best thing is to shut down completely. This will ensure a clean fresh boot every time, it will save energy and increase the lifespan of your hardware.

I think it is best to keep it in standby mode because when you switch back on, it is all ready for you within seconds.`
